Spiritual, Religious…

The term spiritual has a broad meaning in the Native American culture. The term spirit in Indian Medicine refers to an active and alive flow of energy that connects us all to the Universal Spirit. The term spiritual refers to a way or teaching, similar to a path or belief that we hold in our values. Sometimes it used to mean the same thing, the words spirit and spiritual can be used or referred to differently in ceremonies and in the old teachings. Both are unlike the meaning associated with religion, and both can be interchanged with a person’s religious belief or choice or religious activity. This is one of the reasons that Indian people were alright with accepting different religious beliefs. The Spiritual path was never taken away from the native American people; the cultural traditions and ancient teachings of an original people are still with us today.
