Benevolence

How would we know good, if there’s no bad?

His soft words hit me like a velvet hammer.

It was an instant enlightenment.

Unless after the years of silent brewing

it became dormant

like blood running warm under a skin

And then it gushed forth

as the words have touched the raw flesh

after the fingernails were bitten to the quick

According to him Bad is

the flip side of Good

As in Yin and Young

But then I couldn’t help hearing

Benevolence

in my middle ear

Charity

as a genuine tendency

to do good to others

No matter what
